Learning Outcomes

In line with CCMAS from the National University Commission (NUC), the student should at the end of the course:

1. gain an appreciation for the field of linguistics and its main sub-fields;

2. better understand the structure and components of language;

3. be familiar with basic concepts and vocabulary in linguistics.

 

Course Contents 
In greater detail, the course is a general introduction to linguistics, its scope and application. It covers such issues as the origin, nature, structure, and use of language, and the relation of human language to animal language. It also introduces the students to some of the major sub-fields. A large number of special terms and concepts shall also be introduced.
